Weddings
November through April is the quietest stretch of our calendar, and some of the work we are proudest of sits inside it. An off-season wedding is not a compromise on flowers. It is a different palette.
Late in the growing season we are still pulling locally grown marigolds and gladioli, and building around clematis, anthurium, roses, lisianthus, allium and the fluffy ming fern we keep coming back to. For a December wedding at The Logan Inn in New Hope we blanketed the ceremony space in a fresh layer of snowy baby’s breath, then flipped the room to a reception in a rich palette of burgundy, plum, red and white.
Deep winter leans structural. A March wedding at The Bellevue Hotel in Philadelphia was built on thistle and heather to honor a groom from Scotland, kept modern and sculptural so it sat properly against the art nouveau of the Conservatory and the Pearl Room. Longer stems, upright shapes, fewer and larger gestures.
By April the local growers are back and the spring hits arrive before the season officially opens: fritillaria, frilly tulips, ranunculus, poppies, anemones, hellebore, bleeding hearts and bridal wreath spirea. Cherry blossom branches give a ceremony real height without a heavy structure. Several of our favorite Osteria weddings have been April dates.
Dates in this window are the easiest to get on our calendar, and we are booking through 2027. How your venue prices November through April is a question to ask them directly, because it varies venue by venue. We serve Camden, Gloucester, Burlington, Philadelphia, Delaware, Montgomery, Chester, Bucks, Cape May, Atlantic, Ocean and New Castle counties across New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, including Audubon, Philadelphia, New Hope, Cape May and Wilmington.
South Stems is an event and corporate floral studio. We do not offer retail arrangements, same-day gift delivery or walk-in service.
Late autumn still gives us locally grown marigolds and gladioli alongside clematis, anthurium, roses, lisianthus, allium and ming fern. Winter leans structural, with stems like thistle and heather. From roughly April the local growers return with fritillaria, tulips, ranunculus, poppies, anemones, hellebore and bridal wreath spirea.
It changes what is available locally, not the quality of the result. We propose a palette built around what is genuinely in season on your date rather than forcing a summer look into February, which is how off-season weddings end up looking their best.
